PAGASA: Heavy rains expected over Ilocos region

PAGASA on Monday issued a heavy rainfall outlook for Ilocos Norte and Ilocos Sur due to the Southwest Monsoon (Habagat).

Based on its 11 p.m. weather advisory,  the state weather bureau said 50 to 100 millimeters of rainfall should be expected in Ilocos Norte and Ilocos Sur in the next 24 hours.

“Localized flooding is possible mainly in areas that are urbanized, low lying, or near rivers. Landslide possible in highly susceptible areas,” state meteorologists said.

PAGASA also urged the public and disaster risk reduction and management agencies in affected areas to take all essential safety precautions

“Forecast rainfall maybe higher in mountainous and elevated areas. Moreover, impacts in some areas maybe worsened by significant antecedent rainfall,” PAGASA said. —Mariel Celine Serquiña/RF, GMA Integrated News
