PAGASA warns of up to 3-meter storm surges in Luzon due to Uwan

State weather bureau PAGASA has warned of a moderate to high risk of storm surges in several coastal provinces within the next 12 hours as Typhoon Uwan continues to affect the country’s western seaboards.

In its Storm Surge Warning No. 12 issued at 2:00 p.m. Monday, November 10, PAGASA said inundation from rising sea water and high waves is possible in low-lying coastal communities in Ilocos Norte, Ilocos Sur, La Union, Pangasinan, and Zambales, where storm surge heights may reach 2.1 to 3 meters.

Meanwhile, 1 to 2-meter surges may also affect parts of Pangasinan, Zambales, Bataan, Cavite, Batangas, Occidental Mindoro, Palawan, Cagayan, Isabela, and Aurora.

PAGASA advised residents in coastal and low-lying areas to move to higher ground and stay away from beaches and storm surge-prone zones. All marine activities are likewise strongly discouraged due to the threat of rough seas and large waves.

Local disaster risk reduction and management offices have been directed to implement precautionary and evacuation measures as needed.

The weather bureau urged the public to remain vigilant and monitor official bulletins for further updates. The next storm surge information will be issued at 8:00 p.m.—AOL, GMA Integrated News
