Signal No. 1 up over 14 areas due to Ada

Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal (TCWS) No. 1 is in effect over 14 areas in Luzon, the Visayas, and Mindanao as Tropical Storm Ada turned "more northward" over the Philippine Sea east of Eastern Visayas Friday morning, state weather bureau PAGASA said in its 11 a.m. bulletin.

Ada was last located 325 kilometers east of Guiuan, Eastern Samar, packing maximum sustained winds of 65 km per hour near the center and gustiness of up to 80 kph.

The tropical storm was moving northward at 15 kph.

“On the forecast track, the center of ADA may pass close to Eastern Samar and Northern Samar tomorrow and Catanduanes from tomorrow evening through Sunday. A further westward shift in the forecast track may result in a possible landfall over Eastern Visayas and Bicol Region,” PAGASA said.

“ADA is forecast to remain a tropical storm category while moving over the sea east of Visayas and Southern Luzon. This tropical cyclone may weaken into a tropical depression by Tuesday,” it added. —VAL, GMA Integrated News
