Basyang, amihan to bring cloudy skies, rains over parts of PH — PAGASA

Tropical Storm Basyang and northeast monsoon (amihan) will bring cloudy skies and rains over parts of the country on Thursday, PAGASA reported.

At 3 a.m., the center of Tropical Storm Basyang was estimated at 460 kilometers East of Hinatuan, Surigao del Sur with maximum sustained winds of 65 kilometers per hour near the center and gustiness of up to 80 km/h and moving West Southwestward at 15 km/h.

The Northeast Monsoon or amihan, meanwhile, will be affecting Luzon.

Caraga and Davao Oriental will experience stormy weather due to Tropical Storm Basyang. Flash floods or landslides may occur due to moderate to heavy rains. There will be minor to moderate threat to life and property due to strong to-gale force winds.

Northern Mindanao, Eastern Samar, Leyte, Southern Leyte, Cebu, Bohol, Siquijor, and the rest of Davao Region will have rains with gusty winds also due to Basyang with the possibility that flash floods or landslides will occur due to moderate to heavy rains. There may also be minimal to minor threat to life and property in these areas due to strong winds.

The rest of Visayas and the rest of Mindanao will have cloudy skies with scattered rains and thunderstorms due to Basyang. Flash floods or landslides may occur due to moderate to at times heavy rains.

Batanes will have cloudy skies with light rains due to the northeast monsoon but there will be no significant impact in the area.

Metro Manila and the rest of Luzon will have partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated light rains also due to the northeast monsoon and with no significant impact.

The rest of Visayas and Mindanao will experience moderate to strong moving in the northeast to northwest direction while coastal waters will be moderate to rough.

The eastern section of Luzon will have moderate to strong wind speed moving northeastward while coastal waters will be moderate to rough.

The wind speed forecast for the rest of Luzon is light to moderate moving in the east to northeast direction with sight to moderate.
