PAGASA: 15 areas to experience 'danger' level heat index on June 5, 2026

Fifteen areas in different parts of the country are expected to experience a “danger” level heat index on Friday, June 5, 2026, the state weather bureau said.

According to PAGASA’s five-day heat index forecast, these areas may record heat index levels ranging from 42°C to 45°C:

• Infanta, Quezon
• Roxas City, Capiz

44°C

• Catarman, Northern Samar
• Guiuan, Eastern Samar

43°C

• Mambusao, Capiz
• Borongan, Eastern Samar
• Zamboanga City, Zamboanga del Sur

42°C

• Puerto Princesa City, Palawan
• Virac (Synop), Catanduanes
• Masbate City, Masbate
• Juban, Sorsogon
• Catbalogan, Western Samar
• Surigao City, Surigao del Norte
• Hinatuan, Surigao del Sur
• Butuan City, Agusan del Norte

On the other hand, nearly 60 areas are expected to experience “extreme caution” heat index levels ranging from 33°C to 41°C.

There are two areas also expected to experience “caution” heat index levels: Abucay, Bataan and Tanay, Rizal both at 31°C.

Meanwhile, the following areas are expected to record “not hazardous” heat index levels below 27°C:

• Baguio City, Benguet: 20°C
• BSU, La Trinidad, Benguet: 20°C
• Benguet Radar, Tuba, Benguet: 15°C

The heat index refers to the temperature felt by the human body when relative humidity is combined with actual air temperature. High humidity slows the evaporation of sweat, making it more difficult for the body to cool down.

PAGASA advised the public to limit their time outside and to use umbrellas or caps when outdoors.

The state weather bureau also recommended drinking lots of water and avoiding drinking tea, coffee, and sodas.

Earlier on Thursday, PAGASA declared the onset of the rainy season after observing frequent rains due to the Southwest Monsoon or Habagat.— JMA, GMA News
