Easterlies to bring rains over Mindanao, Bicol, E. Visayas

Easterlies are forecast to drench Mindanao, Bicol, and Eastern Visayas on Sunday, June 14, state weather bureau PAGASA reported.

In a weather bulletin issued at 4 p.m. Saturday, PAGASA said easterlies were expected to bring cloudy skies with scattered rains and thunderstorms in Mindanao, and partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rainshowers or thunderstorms in the Bicol region and eastern Visayas.

Also known as the easterly trade winds or "silanganin," the easterlies refer to winds that originate from the east. These bring warm and moist air from the Pacific Ocean.

Meanwhile, Metro Manila and the rest of the country are expected to experience partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rainshowers or thunderstorms due to localized thunderstorms.

Areas affected by the easterlies and localized thunderstorms may experience possible flash floods or landslides, according to PAGASA.

Light to moderate winds and slight to moderate seas are expected in the country, with waves running from 0.6 to 1.8 meters in extreme Northern Luzon, and 0.6 to 1.2 meters in Palawan, western sections of Visayas and Mindanao, and the rest of the country.

At the PAGASA Science Garden weather station in Diliman, Quezon City, the highest temperature recorded on Saturday reached 32.5 degrees Celsius at 11 a.m., while the lowest temperature was logged at 26.2 degrees Celsius at 5 a.m.
