Kiyapo, Habagat to bring rains across PH

The Southwest Monsoon, or Habagat, and the trough of Tropical Depression Kiyapo will dampen several parts of the country on Friday, the state weather bureau PAGASA said.

According to the 24-hour weather forecast issued at 4 p.m. on Thursday, cloudy skies with scattered rains and thunderstorms are expected over Mindanao, Western Visayas, Negros Island Region, Central Visayas, Occidental Mindoro, and Palawan due to Habagat.

Likewise, similar conditions are also forecast over Bicol Region, Eastern Visayas, and Romblon brought by the trough of Kiyapo.

Meanwhile, Metro Manila and the rest of Luzon are expected to experience partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms due to localized thunderstorms.

PAGASA warned of possible flash floods or landslides in the said areas due to heavy rains and thunderstorms.

As of 3 p.m., the center of Tropical Depression Kiyapo was monitored at 675 kilometers east of Tuguegarao City, Cagayan. It packs maximum sustained winds of 45 kilometers per hour near the center and gustiness of up to 55 kilometers per hour.

It is moving northwestward at 30 kilometers per hour.

Kiyapos is forecast to exit the Philippine Area of Responsibility by Saturday morning or noon. — Vince Angelo Ferreras/BM, GMA News
