Thunderstorm warning raised over Metro Manila, nearby provinces

Moderate to heavy rainshowers with lightning and strong winds are expected over Metro Manila and several nearby provinces due to localized thunderstorms, PAGASA said on Friday morning.

In its Thunderstorm Advisory No. 25 issued at 9:10 a.m., PAGASA said Batangas, Cavite, Metro Manila, and Rizal were already experiencing heavy rains with lightning and strong winds that may persist within two hours.

Moderate to heavy rainshowers with lightning and strong winds were also expected within the next two hours over parts of Laguna, Quezon, Bulacan, and Cavite, as well as nearby areas.

PAGASA warned that the thunderstorms could trigger flash floods or landslides, especially in areas susceptible to these hazards.

Meanwhile, the Manila Public Information Office issued Localized Thunderstorm Advisory No. 1 at 9:15 a.m., warning residents to expect moderate to heavy rains across the city for the next two to three hours.

City authorities urged motorists to exercise caution on slippery roads and advised residents to bring umbrellas or rain gear when going outdoors.

Residents were also advised to avoid floodwaters whenever possible and monitor updates from PAGASA and their local government units. —VAL, GMA News
