Super Typhoon Dolphin, which is outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR), weakened into a typhoon at 8 a.m. Sunday, state weather bureau PAGASA said.

Dolphin is being monitored within the Tropical Cyclone Information Domain of PAGASA.

The typhoon was last estimated to be located at 3,285 kilometers east of extreme northern Luzon at 8 a.m.

Dolphin is packing 175 km/h winds with gustiness of 215 km/h.

PAGASA earlier said on Sunday that it is not ruling out the possibility that Dolphin could enter PAR in the coming days.

It will be locally named "Maymay" if it enters PAR, it added. —Vince Angelo Ferreras/KG, GMA News
