Habagat to bring rains over parts of Luzon, Visayas

The Southwest Monsoon or Habagat will continue to affect Luzon and the western section of Visayas on Sunday, bringing scattered rains and thunderstorms to several areas, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said.

PAGASA said cloudy skies with scattered rains and thunderstorms are expected over the Ilocos Region, Cordillera Administrative Region, Batanes, Cagayan, Zambales, Bataan, Nueva Ecija, Tarlac and Occidental Mindoro.

Moderate to at times heavy rains in these areas may trigger flash floods or landslides, it said.

Metro Manila, the rest of Luzon and Visayas will experience partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms. Severe thunderstorms may also cause flash floods or landslides.

Mindanao, meanwhile, will have partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms due to localized thunderstorms, with possible flash floods or landslides during severe thunderstorms.

Moderate to strong winds from the southwest to west are expected over extreme Northern Luzon, where coastal waters will be moderate to rough, with waves reaching 2.1 to 3.1 meters.

The western section of Luzon will also experience moderate to strong southwesterly winds, with moderate to rough seas and waves of 1.5 to 2.8 meters.

The rest of the country will have light to moderate winds from the south to southwest, with slight to moderate coastal waters and waves of 0.6 to 1.8 meters.

Based on monitoring at the PAGASA Weather Station in Diliman, Quezon City, the temperature reached a high of 31.2 C at 2 p.m. Saturday and dropped to a low of 25.6 C at 2 a.m.

The sun is expected to rise at 5:42 a.m. and set at 6:18 p.m. on Sunday. — MCG, GMA News
