Three tropical cyclones are being monitored around the Philippines, two of them outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility.

According to Amor Larosa’s report on “24 Oras,” the three cyclones don’t have any direct effect on the country, but weather disturbances like these cause the Habagat, or Southwest Monsoon, to prevail, resulting in heavy rains.

These cyclones are Tropical Depression Neneng, which is inside the PAR; Tropical Storm Saudel; and the tropical depression 880 kms west of extreme Northern Luzon.

The heavy monsoon rains may continue until the weekend or even next week. There will be days when there will be light rain before again becoming stronger.

The tropical storm with the international name Saudel is 3,000 kms east of Northeastern Mindanao. It is expected to become even stronger in the coming days because of the time it is at sea.

Saudel will be named Obet if it enters the PAR.

Whether or not it enters the PAR, it is possible that it will enhance the Southwest Monsoon and bring rains to the country.

The tropical depression west of extreme Northern Luzon will not enter the PAR but will proceed towards southern China.

Tropical Depression Neneng was last spotted at 375 kms northeast of Itbayat, Batanes, and was moving west-northwest at 35 kph.

It is forecast to move towards northern Taiwan on Thursday night or Friday early morning before leaving the PAR. –NB, GMA News
