Cloudy skies, rains expected over Northern and Central Luzon due to Habagat
The southwest monsoon or Habagat is expected to affect the weather conditions of Northern and Central Luzon on Saturday, August 22, 2026, state weather bureau PAGASA said Friday.
In PAGASA's 4 p.m. bulletin, the Habagat was forecast to bring cloudy skies with scattered rains and thunderstorms over the Ilocos Region, Apayao, Abra, Benguet, Batanes, and Cagayan.
Partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rainshowers or thunderstorms were likely over Metro Manila and the rest of the Cordillera Administrative Region, Cagayan Valley, Central Luzon, and CALABARZON.
Meanwhile, the rest of the country was expected to experience partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rainshowers or thunderstorms due to localized thunderstorms.
As of 2 p.m., the low pressure area that was formerly Tropical Depression Neneng was monitored outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR). It had a medium chance of redeveloping into a tropical depression within the next 24 hours, according to PAGASA.
Also being monitored outside the PAR, Severe Tropical Storm Saudel was spotted at 2,635 kms east of Southeastern Luzon with maximum sustained winds of 110 kph and gusts up to 135 kph.
The low pressure area was also located outside PAR at 1,485 kms east of Northeastern Mindanao.
Forecast winds, coastal waters
Moderate to strong winds and moderate to rough coastal waters were expected in the northern and western sections of Luzon, with waves running from 1.5 meters to 3.4 meters.
Light to moderate winds and slight to moderate coastal waters were forecast in the Visayas, Mindanao, and the rest of Luzon, with waves as high as 0.6 meters to 2.1 meters.
At the PAGASA Science Garden weather station in Diliman, Quezon City, the highest temperature recorded Friday reached 31.9 degrees Celsius at 1 p.m., while the lowest temperature was logged at 26.9 degrees Celsius at 8 a.m.
