Death toll from Luis, Maymay, Habagat rises to 29 — OCD

The reported death toll from the combined effects of Tropical Cyclones Luis and Maymay and the southwest monsoon or Habagat has climbed to 29, the Office of Civil Defense (OCD) said Thursday.

Based on OCD's data as of 6 a.m., the fatalities were reported in the following areas:

Benguet — 15

  • Baguio — 10
  • La Trinidad — 2
  • Atok — 3

La Union — 1

  • Luna — 1

Rizal — 4

  • Rodriguez — 2
  • Antipolo — 1
  • Binangonan — 1

Batangas — 4

  • Batangas — 1
  • Lipa — 1
  • Santa Teresita — 1
  • Mabini — 1

Quezon — 1

  • Candelaria — 1

Oriental Mindoro — 1

  • Puerto Galera — 1

Negros Occidental — 1

  • Cadiz — 1

Caloocan — 2


According to the OCD, the victims died due to landslides, rockslides, fallen trees, drowning, strong currents, electrocution, and vehicular accidents.

The OCD also recorded 19 injured persons and three missing.

The inclement weather affected 6,516,451 people or 1,815,389 families in Ilocos Region, Cagayan Valley, Central Luzon, Bicol, Western Visayas, Zamboanga Peninsula, CALABARZON, Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR), Metro Manila, and MIMAROPA.

A total of 47,277 people or 13,957 families were staying in 628 evacuation centers.

The OCD also reported 2,108 houses damaged — 1,882 partially and 226 totally.

Infrastructure damage was estimated at P4,665,304,087, while agricultural damage reached P1,423,918,790.

The government has provided P95,7842,452 worth of assistance to affected communities, according to the OCD. — VDV, GMA News
