PAGASA: 2 cyclones monitored outside PAR

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) is monitoring two tropical cyclones outside the country's area of responsibility, the weather bureau said in a Tuesday morning bulletin.

One of them is Saudel, the typhoon that used to be Obet when it was still inside the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR).

As of 8 a.m., Saudel was last recorded at 1,120 kms east northeast of extreme northern Luzon, packing maximum sustained winds of 150 kph. It was moving west northwestward at 20 kph.

The second cyclone is Tropical Depression Atsani, which was spotted 1,705 kms east of extreme northern Luzon. It carried maximum sustained winds of 45 kph and was moving northward at 15 kph.

Meanwhile, the low pressure area that used to be cyclone Neneng has dissipated.

Most of Luzon, including Metro Manila, is affected by the southwest monsoon of Habagat. PAGASA said Luzon should expect cloudy skies and scattered rains.

In an 11 a.m. weather advisory, the state weather bureau said Zambales could expect 50 to 100 mm of rain from Tuesday to Wednesday noon. Zambales residents are warned of localized flooding in urbanized areas as well as riversides.

From Wednesday to Thursday, residents in Benguet, La Union, Pangasinan, Zambales, and Bataan are also warned of possible rainfall measuring 50 to 100 mm. Residents are also warned of possible flooding and landslides. — VDV, GMA News
