One day to the start of the official campaign period for local elective posts, personnel of the City of Talisay Traffic Operations and Development Authority in Cebu removed illegal campaign materials that obstruct traffic lights and signages.
The local campaign period starts on Friday, March 28, 2025.
Jonathan Tumulak, chief of CT-TODA, discussed the activity during the 2nd City Joint Security Control Center Command Conference on March 26, 2025, so that afternoon on March 27, 2025 they proceeded with the removal of campaign posters but only those that blocked traffic lights and signages.
“Dunay pipila ka mga traffic signages nga naalihan og mga campaign materials, so gawas nga gipang-alihan, gipangtabunan, naa sad gyud mga traffic signages nga halos di na nimo makita kay gialirungan og mga campaign materials. So during sa meeting gihatagan ta og pagtugot sa Comelec,” Tumulak said.
During the first day of the local campaign period, COMELEC, DPWH, CENRO, and BFP personnel, along with personnel of CT-TODA, Talisay City Police, and Team Aksyon Agad will conduct an “Operation Baklas” the whole day on March 28, 2025 beginning at 8 a.m.
Meanwhile, Tumulak urged candidates to inform CT-TODA first before embarking on motorcades, and rallies to prevent road impediments.
As of this writing, CT-TODA has not received yet any report on the staging of motorcades.
For political rallies, the COMELEC has reminded parties to seek a permit from the Local Government Unit.
COMELEC has reiterated that candidates are prohibited from distributing food and water during the campaign as this is already considered a form of vote buying.
In addition, Talisay City COMELEC Election Officer, Atty. Richleigh Consulta has reminded about guidelines in the removal of campaign posters.
“If naa sa private area, regardless of size di gyud ta pwede makabaklas, so kung naa sa public area, any public area regardless of size, we need to baklas that; sa common poster area it needs to be in a proper size. If wala sa sakto nga size, ato nang ibaklas pud,” Consulta said.
Further, Police Lt. Col. Maila Maramag, officer in charge of Talisay City Police, said that though the City of Talisay is under the Green category (to mean peaceful) they have implemented COMELEC checkpoints stringently to strengthen vigilance.
