The Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) brought civil registration services and digital training to persons deprived of liberty (PDLs) at the Urdaneta District Jail in Pangasinan, officials said.

The PSA Regional Office 1 conducted a mobile registration system aimed at making civil documents more accessible to inmates, their families, and Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) personnel.

Around 80 PDLs and 20 jail personnel were able to process documents such as birth certificates, certificates of no marriage, and marriage certificates during the activity.

The PSA also carried out National ID enrollment, registering about 40 PDLs in the system.

Officials said the initiative helps ensure proper identity records, which may support the reintegration of PDLs once they return to their communities.

Alongside the registration services, PDLs and jail staff also took part in digital literacy and computer training, including basic troubleshooting and computer assembly and disassembly.

The program was done in partnership with a university, which provided technical training and guidance on computer use and repair.

The BJMP said it continues to support programs that provide learning opportunities for inmates to help them prepare for life after detention.
