The five-kilometer Iloilo River North Bank Road, otherwise branded as the “Iloilo Sunset Boulevard,” worth P2.2 billion is now open to the public.
The four-lane road that connects the District of Mandurriao, Iloilo City and Barangay Cagbang in Oton town, Province of Iloilo is opened on Friday, January 24, 2025.
The boulevard serves as an alternate road toward southern Iloilo and the Province of Antique, and integral in the preparation for the construction of the proposed Panay-Guimaras-Negros Bridge.
The opening of the Iloilo Sunset Boulevard was led by former senator, Franklin Drilon.
The boulevard is one of Drilon’s initiatiaves, and of the Department of Public Works and Highways.
The boulevard features an esplanade, bike lanes, walkways, and viewing decks that offer a scenic view of the sunset. Amenities also include viewing spots for migratory birds, and fishing spots in the vicinity of the Iloilo River.
The boulevard is seen to help decongest traffic in Iloilo City.
“More convenient na sa commuters especially sa aming nagba-bike to work. Mas madali nang maka-report sa opisina,” said Rey Dunyn Batiduan, a biking enthusiast.
In addition, the Iloilo Sunset Boulevard is seen to further boost tourism and economy of the city and neighboring towns.
“The beauty of this project will contribute to the projection and the image of Iloilo City as a most liveable area in the country,” Drilon said.
As for Novem Talaman, a resident, the trees provide a grand vista at the boulevard.
“The best talaga ang view kasi maraming kahoy na nagbibigay ng view sa Sunset Boulevard,” Talaman said.
The national government has allocated P2.261 billion for the project.
