The 21-year-old suspect in the death of a voice coach in Cebu admitted reportedly to the killing.

Sanny Ramayrat Lumangca of Barangay Bitoon, Clarin town, Misamis Occidental surrendered on January 12, 2024 to the City of Naga Police and confessed reportedly to killing “Sinulog Idol” voice coach Joel Jude Unchuan, fondly called “Coach Jay.”

Lumangca resided temporarily in the City of Mandaue and established a friendship with Unchuan reportedly through phone conversations.

Unchuan’s body was found dumped on a grassy, secluded lot in Sitio Palanas, Barangay Inayagan, Naga City on December 30, 2023. Unchuan was wearing a black shirt, with his underpants on; his hands were found to be tied.

According to Lt. Col. Gerard Ace Pelare, spokesperson of Police Regional Office 7, Lumangca gave an extrajudicial confession witnessed by two independent lawyers.

Pelare said Lumangca was identified through a dashboard camera footage.

Dashcam logs recovered inside Unchuan’s vehicle provided hints on Lumangca’s alleged participation in the crime.

The vehicle was recovered on January 1, 2024 in Liloan town, north Cebu.

The suspect confessed reportedly that he perpetrated the crime alone. He said it was the second time they met as friends. However, they had an argument inside the car that led to the crime; the details of which were undisclosed yet to the media.

Police have looked into the location in Mandaue City where the crime was said to be carried out vis-a-vis the place where the body was found.

Even though Lumangca admitted to having done it alone, police have continued to check the veracity of his statement.

Review of CCTV footages and other pieces of evidence have been done to validate Lumangca’s confession.

Charges for murder will be filed against Lumangca on January 15, 2024.
