A landslide struck Sitio Salimbal in Barangay Tignapoloan, Cagayan de Oro City, following heavy rains afternoon on Wednesday, May 27, 2026, leaving several residents and motorsits stranded.

Video footage showed mud above knee-deep blocking the road, forcing some motorists to carry their motorcycles to cross to the other side.

According to the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (CDRRMO), they received the report at past 7 p.m. and deployed personnel immediately to conduct clearing operations.

CDRRMO head Nick Jabagat said the recent rains may have triggered the incident. He added that the area had shown signs of soil movement due to a previous landslide.

“Sa bukid nga bahin dili lang dinhi sa ubos halos every afternoon nag-ulan ulan siguro usa sa naka-trigger ang kani nga area man gud as per sa atong City Engineer Momongan nakasinati na pud og landslide, so medyo naa na’y movement before,” Jabagat said.

No injuries and damaged houses were reported.

Authorities reminded the public to remain vigilant, especially in upland areas of the city where continuous rains increase risk of landslides.

“Wala man mga balay balay dinhi nga area ang access lang sa main road going to Besigan mao mani siya mao na gi hinay hinay karon sa City Engineering ug clear,” Jabagat added.
