A 34-year-old tricycle driver was beaten up by two men on MH Del Pilar Street in Dagupan City.

Cell phone footage shows the victim lying on the ground while being punched repeatedly and hit with a wooden stick by his attackers.

Barangay watchmen attempted to intervene but were unable to stop the violence immediately.

“Kahit na nandoon na ang dalawang tanod, hindi nila masuway ang nambubugbog sa anak ko. Nakahiga na ang anak ko, binubugbog,” the victim’s mother said.

According to the Barangay Council, the incident stemmed from a misunderstanding.

“Dahil sa salitang narinig ng suspek na ‘ambagel’ kaya nagalit siya at sinaktan niya si biktima,” Arsenio Curameng II, Chairman of Barangay Mayombo, said.

The victim, a tricycle driver from Barangay Caranglaan, had just dropped a passenger off at around 9 p.m. when the suspects confronted him and beat him.

He is now recovering from his injuries but his family remains worried about another attack.

The Barangay Council has scheduled a meeting between the victim and the suspects on July 23, 2024.

“Para hindi sila mag-alala sa nangyari, parang kausapin si suspek na huwag na takutin o bawian ang biktima,” Curameng said.
