The Land Transportation Office (LTO) 6 along with the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) 6, and other agencies went around terminals in Iloilo City on Tuesday, April 15, 2025 via “Oplan Harabas,” or random drug test for drivers.
A taxicab driver and a tricycle driver were found positive in a terminal in the District of Jaro. While at the Mohon Terminal, two modernized jeepney drivers were found positive.
The drug test is part of “Oplan Byaheng Ayos” during the observance of the Holy Week.
“Pag nag-positive, mag-show cause kami sa driver, mag-show cause rin ang LTFRB sa operator. Once nag-positive sa confirmatory ang driver, most likely ma-revoke ang kanyang lisensya,” LTO 6 Regional Director, Atty. Gaudioso Geduspan, said.
At Parola Wharf in Iloilo City, the Philippine Coast Guard checked each baggage of passengers bound for the Province of Guimaras. Passengers were counted based on the number listed in the manifesto, and passenger capacity of the vessel.
Despite the delay the procedure caused, passengers said they understand the stringent measures to secure their safety and security.
“Kung yun ang kailangan para mas ma-feel namin na safer kami, so be it,” Josephine Balanay, a tourist, said.
Due to the expected influx of tourists and pilgrims to the “Balaan Bukid” (Sacred Mountain) in Jordan, Guimaras, the vessel is checked stringently.
“Na-check naman yan lahat everytime na naghahanda sa ‘Pagtaltal,’” John Rey Morante, member of a boat crew, said.
In Boracay Island, average daily tourist arrivals during the Holy Week is expected to be around 10,000. The Local Government Unit of Malay said it is on alert for the surge of tourist traffic.
Deployment of Malay Police has taken Boracay Island as a focus area, especially at terminals and crowded places.
“Main concern po natin is hindi po tayo magkaroon ng mga incident like po ang mga theft at mga salisi. Yan po ang ating binabantayan, mga gamit po na naiiwan sa beachfront, yung mga pumipila po sa mga ports and others na pwede mangyari ang mga insidente,” according to Lt. Col. Mar Joseph Ravelo, chief of the Malay Municipal Police Station.
Based on Memorandum Order 2025-33 signed by Malay Mayor Frolibar Bautista, beach parties and activities with loud music are prohibited in the island from 6 a.m. on Good Friday to 6 a.m. on Black Saturday.
