Authorities continue to search for a 10-year-old girl who was carried away by floodwaters after she allegedly slipped and fell into the river while playing in the rain in Barangay 5-A, Davao City.
Based on initial investigation, the victim had asked permission from her mother to play in the rain together with her younger sibling afternoon on Saturday, May 23, 2026.
Police said the children were later encouraged by their cousins and other minor boys to go near the river in Sto. Niño de Suba.
Investigators said the victim allegedly slipped and fell into the water, and was carried away by the strong current. She then disappeared and is presumed to have drowned.
Personnel of the Barangay Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (BDRRMO), Philippine Coast Guard, and Central 911 have launched search and rescue operations, but the victim remains missing, as of this writing.
