A one-year-old boy in Cebu died after he was run over by a bus when he and his parents figured in an accident as they were heading home.

The incident happened on the national highway in the southern town of Samboan.

The family had just arrived in the island from neighboring Negros Oriental and were starting to drive home to Compostela town on board their motorcycle.

Suddenly, the motorcycle reportedly hit a pothole, lost balance, and fell.

It was at this instance when the mother lost her grip on the child and the boy was thrown onto the road just as a passenger bus was driving past them.

Unfortunately, the rear wheel of the bus snagged the boy in the head.

It was only in the rear view mirror that the bus driver got a glimpse of what had happened and stopped his vehicle.

“Nakaligis kuno sila og libaong, na-out balance sila didto, at the same time, nakalabang sad to gamay ang bus, so pagtumba nila, nabuhian nila gamay ang bata. So, mao to, pag-aksyon lagpot gamay sa bata, didto sya naigo sa ligid sa bus. Wala sad kabantay tong driver kay nakalapas naman ang bus. Didto na nakita sa side mirror nga naay helmet nga natumba, mao tong nihunong siya. Paghunong niya, didto na nakit-an nga ang bata naigo gyud diay ang ulo,” P/Corporal Ludovico Bajoyo of the Samboan Municipal Police Station told GMA Regional TV Balitang Bisdak.

The boy was rushed to the hospital but did not make it there alive.

The bus driver may face charges for reckless imprudence resulting in homicide.

The family is yet to decide whether or not to file charges.
