Motorists are advised to exercise caution when passing the town of Sogod in northern Cebu because of an ongoing project that is affecting the national highway in Barangay Damolog.

The local government said the seeming landslide or rockslide observed along the national highway is actually “controlled slope failure” or controlled and deliberate release of rock and soil that would have otherwise fallen to the road.

This is reportedly being done in line with the establishment of a slope protection after cracks were found following the massive earthquake that hit northern Cebu in 2025.

The LGU said precautionary measures are in place. It urged motorists to be extra cautious when passing Barangay Damolog and to follow traffic advisories from personnel of the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) manning the area.

A netizen who was driving to northern Cebu captured on camera the moment soil was dropping down side of the mountain, which generated clouds of dust.

“Nahibung mi ngano abog ang dalan, unya paghangad namo mao to amo nakita, pino kaayo nga balas o anapog kay nagtagak tagak murag waterfall gani padung sa ubos,” Adeelle Judilla told GMA Regional TV Balitang Bisdak.

“Pagpadung namo uli, pagka-gabii, naa nay naka-assign nga tawo. Naay nakasuwat nga caution ana… amoa unta ba, kay basin naay mga motor, abog gani siya sir, kay basin mapuling or basin malanghap nila ang abog kay pino kaayo siya,” she said.
