The Mandaue City government in Cebu has warned its residents against indiscriminate dumping of trash.
This after one of its closed circuit television (CCTV) cameras, manned by the city’s traffic command center, caught a man pushing a cart to a bridge on A. Soriano Avenue and dumped up to three sacks of trash into the river.
After dumping the garbage, the man walked away casually.
Command center personnel reported the matter immediately to the Public Information Office, which, in turn, reported the incident to the City Environment and Natural Resources Office (CENRO).
This happened on a Monday morning and by 11 a.m., CENRO personnel traced the man at the city market.
However, the man reportedly appeared to be living with a mental health condition and was merely instructed to bring the trash to the river.
“By 11 in the morning, na-apprehend nila sa merkado Mandaue, which is ilang description is dunay problema sa pangisip… duda nila gisugo or sugo-sugoon. Naa ra man na’s merkado maglabang labang. Naay gisulti nga name adto nga nagsugo,” said Arnold Malig-on, section head of the Mandaue City Command Center.
Because of his condition, the city did not push through issuing a citation ticket to the man.
The city said it will issue citation tickets, and even apprehend, those found throwing trash indiscriminately.
It also reminded residents that the city’s command center is always keeping an eye on the city’s public spaces through CCTV cameras.
“Part sa command center, dili lang kay incident or traffic gi-monitor mismo kanang ingon ana illegal mamonitor sab namo,” Malig-on said.
