The initial amount needed to repair national roads and bridges damaged by the magnitude 7.8 earthquake in Sarangani is around P734 million, the provincial government said.
The initial recovery requirement based on the assessment of the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) has reached P734 million for repairs of damaged national roads, bridges, excluding damaged houses, schools, hospitals, and other government facilities.
“The rehabilitation of these facilities is vital not only to recover but also for the restoration of education, healthcare, commerce and community life across the province,” Governor Rogelio Pacquiao said.
Among the infrastructures damaged are hospitals and schools.
Patients at Sarangani Provincial Hospital are still staying in tents after a building was damaged by the June 8, 2026 earthquake.
One of the patients is a woman from Maasim town who was about to give birth.
“Dyan sana kami mangangak sa Maasim hospital kaso highblood siya at kulang ang pasilidad, kaya ni refer kami sa Kiamba hospital, kaya lang papunta kami, nagbaha man papuntang Kiamba… sira ang tulay kaya dito nalang kami ni-refer,” the patient’s grandmother, Diosanita Cañeda, said.
The tremor also caused major damage to school buildings in the province.
A total of 617 classrooms across 94 schools were destroyed, and more than a hundred teachers lost their homes.
“They are living on the tent outside their homes and we still experience aftershock kaya kami po’y nanawagan sa lahat ng may mga magigintong puso at sa mga nais mag extend ng tulong pwede natin bigyan ang ating mga kapwa guro dito sa Sarangani,” Sarangani Province Schools Division Superintendent, Ruth Estacio, said.
The Department of Education (DepEd) has already downloaded P21.9 million for clearing and cleanup operations, especially in Sarangani, South Cotabato, and Cotabato Province.
It is also set to release P235 million for 100 to 130 learning continuity spaces, and P259 million for printing and delivery of learning packets for modular classes.
