Authorities are looking into personal grudge that may have stemmed from bullying as possible motive in the shooting incident at San Jose National High School in Tacloban City that killed three students and injured seven others.
The incident happened morning on Monday, June 22, 2026.
According to the Tacloban City Police Office (TCPO), up to 10 students were affected – three of whom did not reach the hospital alive while seven others sustained injuries and are currently receiving treatment.
Investigators said the incident may have stemmed from personal grudge allegedly rooted in school bullying.
“Further investigation indicates that the incident may have stemmed from a personal grudge allegedly rooted in school bullying,” TCPO said.
However, authorities are still conducting a thorough investigation to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident.
Two minor suspects, 14 and 15 years old, were taken into police custody in accordance with juvenile justice and child protection procedures.
Police recovered from the crime scene a caliber .38 revolver and a 9mm pistol allegedly used in the shooting.
TCPO is coordinating closely with school authorities, local government units, and other concerned agencies to ensure proper assistance is extended to the victims’ families and to address the aftermath of the incident.
“This tragic incident involving minors is deeply distressing. We assure the public that a thorough and impartial investigation is underway to establish the truth and ensure accountability while observing applicable laws, especially those protecting minors,” TCPO Director, Col. Noelito Getigan, said.
