A Grade 9 student in Santa Barbara, Iloilo fainted on the street after he was punched by another student while waiting for a ride home.

The suspect allegedly used what is suspected to be brass knuckles that the victim sustained a wound near his mouth. He was also hurt in the head when he fell.

He was brought to the rural health unit for treatment.

The 14-year-old victim, “Nonoy,” is a student of the Santa Barbara National Comprehensive High School.

The incident happened at past 11 a.m. on June 19, 2026.

“Huli na nang nalaman ko na sinuntok ako kasi sabi ng classmate ko, hinimatay raw ako… may nanuntok sa akin. Parang black ang vision, paggising ko, nasa gitna na ako ng kalsada,” Nonoy told GMA Regional TV One Western Visayas.

BULLYING?

The suspect, another minor, was identified the day after.

The 17-year-old boy reportedly told the Lupon ng Barangay that he punched Nonoy upon the instruction of another student.

That third student was allegedly bullied by Nonoy.

Nonoy admitted to being in conflict of another student but he reportedly just retaliated.

That student allegedly took Nonoy’s perfume, sprayed it, and said it was fake and smelled bad.

“Binuksan kasi niya ang bag ko at nag-spray siya ng perfume ko at sabi niya mabaho at peke. Inamin niya na inutusan lang siya,” Nonoy said.

Nonoy’s family is bent on filing charges against the student who punched him and said they would discipline Nonoy if it is proven he is a bully at school.

“Perwisyo sa bata at trauma. Kasi minors, kaya na-trauma sila. Kailangan nila ng counseling. For disciplinary at magbigyan ng leksyon kasi hindi ibig sabihin na kung minor ka, wala nang criminal liability,” said Nonoy’s grandfather.

The student who punched Nonoy has apologized but, as of this writing, the victim’s family has not accepted his apology.

“Humingi siya ng tawad pero (hindi pa handang magpatawad ang complainant),” said Francisco Sudaria, the captain of Barangay Lanag in Santa Barbara.

ADVICE

Lt. Christopher Juarez, Deputy chief of the Santa Barbara Municipal Police Station, advised students to confide in their teachers should they encounter trouble in school, and to not take matters into their own hands.

“Kung pwedeng i-refer niyo sa mga guro o advisers kung may problema. Huwag gumawa ng mga bagay,” he said.

The Municipal Social Welfare and Development Office has taken cognize of the case.
