The City Government of Zamboanga has banned temporarily the entry and transport of live pigs, boars, pork products, and pork by-products from Negros Occidental to prevent the spread of African Swine Fever (ASF) in the city.

Mayor Khymer Olaso issued an executive order on Monday, June 29, 2026, for the temporary ban as a precautionary measure to prevent the spread of ASF.

The order was issued after confirmed cases of ASF were reported in Negros Occidental and upon the recommendation from the Office of the City Veterinarian (OCVet).

Based on the order, border personnel from OCVet and other concerned agencies of the city government are directed to monitor strictly all entry points to the city, enforce biosecurity protocols and verify necessary documents of incoming mentioned products from Negros Occidental to prevent the spread of ASF.

“When necessary, animal blood samples shall be taken and tested in the DA laboratory,” the reads part of the order.

The City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (CDRRMO) is also directed to undertake all appropriate measures to support the OCVet in the task.

“City resources shall be made available at all times to effect the spirit and intent of this order,” the order added.

The order also said that hog raisers, traders, and residents are urged to take extra precautionary measures, avoid unverified reports and observe hygiene and biosecurity practices.
