A 30-year-old man was killed while his 27-year-old brother was injured after they were stabbed in Barangay Kauswagan, Cagayan de Oro City.
Based on investigation, the victims had just come from a drinking session when the suspect attacked them suddenly, stabbing them multiple times.
According to the owner of the house the victims were renting, the stabbing allegedly stemmed from an earlier incident where the victims allegedly assaulted a fellow renter they suspected of being a thief.
Police said the suspect, a friend of the renter, attacked the victims in retaliation.
“Ang akong nabantayan, nag-nilakaga dinhi, mao to ingon ko unsa mani? Pagtan-aw nako, naghayang-hayang naman tung isa… katong biktima gyud. Ang iyang igsuon, katong isa, buhi, pero nagkadugo,” the house owner, Jimmy Oblena, said.
On Tuesday, July 7, 2026, authorities arrested the 21-year-old suspect during a drug buy-bust operation.
Investigators said the suspect was identified positively by witnesses.
The suspect has yet to comment, as of this writing.
Meanwhile, another man was injured after he was stabbed in the same barangay.
The suspect was also arrested who will face frustrated homicide charges.
“Kaning duha nagmugna og heated arguments ug kani sila naa sa impluwensya sa ilumnong makahubog. Ang biktima padayon nga nagpaayo, naa na sa tambalanan,” Cagayan de Oro City Police Office Spokesperson, Capt. Emilita Simon, said.
