A 47-year-old man died while more than 200 families were evacuated after heavy rains caused widespread flooding in Malaybalay City, Bukidnon on Wednesday, July 8, 2026.

According to the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (CDRRMO), the fatality, a resident of Barangay Managok, was reportedly swept away after attempting to retrieve his tethered cow.

“Naanod ni siya kay iyang gipugos nga kuhaon ang iyang gitugway nga mananap nga baka. Wala na niya makaya ang current sa tubig,” CDRRMO Chief, Alan Comiso, said.

A road in Purok 5, Langasihan, Barangay Managok, turned into a creek after overflowing drainage canals caused flooding following heavy rains in the upland areas.

Floodwaters also entered residences, submerging household items and even vehicles.

Some areas experienced knee-deep floodwaters. CDRRMO said among the areas hit the hardest were barangays were Managok, Violeta, Apo Macote, Linabo, and Simaya.

At least 277 families were evacuated and are taking shelter temporarily at evacuation centers.

Classes in several schools were also suspended.

“As of now nagpadagan mi og RDANA o Rapid Damage Assessment and Needs Analysis Team. Naa karon diri sa CDDRMO among gi-facilitate para sa pag-dispatch nila para matagaan gayud mi og exact situation sa ground nga na-apektohan nga mga brgy., pamilya ug mga critical infrastructures,” Comiso added.

Clearing operations are ongoing on roads that remain temporarily impassable due to debris that blocked access.
