A man in Oton, Iloilo who escaped police custody was rearrested just hours after fleeing.
He escaped police custody while waiting to undergo a medical exam at the Rural Health Unit. The exam was a requirement for him to be committed to the BMP District Jail in Pototan, Iloilo.
At the RHU, he reportedly asked to go to the restroom and escaped through the window there.
“Tumakas sya through sa comfort room kasi nag-ask siya sa pulis na nagbabantay for personal necessities,” said Lt. Col. Arnel Solis, chief of the Oton Municipal Police Station.
Closed Circuit Television Camera (CCTV) was able to capture Ron walking in a hurry away from the RHU until he sprinted into a run.
He was not able to go very far, however, as authorities caught up with him in Barangay Poblacion East.
He reportedly tried to hide in the middle of a field of water spinach but authorities found him at past 2 p.m., cuffs still dangling in one wrist.
“Ang space doon medyo open at kangkungan, may tubig. Doon sya pumwesto, ulo lang niya ang nakalabas,” Solis said.
Ron was arrested on June 26 for alleged rape.
He reportedly started becoming restless evening on July 14 when he learned he was going to be committed to the district jail.
Because of the bruises he sustained when he tried to escape, Ron is confined temporarily at the Guimbal District Hospital.
The policemen who were escorting him when he escaped were directed to explain how the incident happened.
