Flooding affected several towns in La Union as rains brought by Tropical Depression #MaymayPH and the southwest monsoon inundated communities, while the number of evacuees continued to increase across the province, authorities said on Thursday, August 6, 2026.

Floodwaters inundated parts of San Fernando City, as well as the municipalities of Bauang, Naguilian, San Juan, and San Gabriel.

Provincial Information Officer John Martin said floodwaters had started to recede as rainfall weakened.

“Pero ngayon, nagsu-subside na ang baha dahil medyo humina naman na ang pag-ulan na nararanasan natin dito sa province,” he said.

Authorities continued clearing operations in several areas, including Agoo, where fallen trees blocking roads were removed. In San Fernando City, crews also cleared drainage canals to improve water flow.

Even before Maymay's arrival, residents in coastal barangays of San Fernando City had already evacuated to safer areas. Many stayed in tents set up at evacuation centers, where barangay and city officials continued to monitor their condition.

Martin said the number of evacuees has increased as more families sought shelter.

“Nadagdagan pa ang bilang ng evacuee natin sa iba't ibang evacuation center dito sa probinsiya ng La Union. Mayroong 821 families, o katumbas ng 4,357 individuals, ang pansamantalang nanunuluyan sa mga evacuation center. Mayroon ding 476 na pamilya, o 1,417 na individuals, na nag-stay sa kanilang mga kamag-anak outside evacuation center,” he said.

Provincial authorities said a total of 5,240 families have been affected by Maymay.

As of posting, four barangays in La Union remained without electricity as restoration efforts continued.
