The Province of Iloilo clinched the championship title in the Western Visayas Regional Athletic Association (WVRAA) Meet 2025 held in the Province of Antique.

According to data from the Department of Education (DepEd) 6, Iloilo garnered 227 gold medals. On second spot is the Province of Negros Occidental with 185, and Aklan on third place with 38.

“Once again we have proven that the delegation of Iloilo or the Province of Iloilo is the powerhouse of Region VI in terms of sports,” said Iloilo Schools Division Superintendent Dr. Ernesto Servillon, Jr.

Iloilo also snagged the championship title in the Paragames, while Negros Occidental settled as first runner-up, and Aklan as second runner-up.

Negros Occidental topped the Elementary division. Iloilo secured the second spot, while Antique settled for third place.

In the Secondary division, Iloilo wrestled for the top spot, followed by Negros Occidental, and Aklan on third.  

“Naging mapayapa ang pag-conduct natin ng WVRAA and we are happy na all our preparations with that of the Province of Antique and Schools Division of Antique and the Regional DepEd Office, naging successful,” Hernani Escullar, Jr., DepEd 6 spokesperson, said.

Meanwhile, a 16-year-old volleybelle became a crowd favorite. Brianna Nikola Ang, middle blocker and team captain of Negros Occidental volleyball girls team represented by Tay Tung High School in Bacolod City because of her beauty and volleyball prowess.

Ang’s team clinched the gold medal in volleyball in the secondary division.  

“Our strategy is teamwork talaga. Not only this as competition. As a team we can learn a lot, not only as a game or like characteristics. First of all, God motivates us,” Ang said.

Further, Team Western Visayas assured of its preparedness for the Palarong Pambansa 2025 in Laoag City, Province of Ilocos Norte.

Moreover, DepEd 6 announced that Passi City in Iloilo will host WVRAA Meet in 2026.
