BFP conducts hydrotesting to locate source of leak in Bangkal gas station

Operatives from the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) are conducting several tests to locate the source of leak at a gas station in  Barangay Bangkal, Makati City, a report on GMA News TV's Balitanghali said Friday.

GMA News' Mariz Umali reported that the BFP is continuously doing several procedures not only to find the source of the gas leak but also to ensure the safety of households located within the vicinity of Phoenix Petroleum's gas station at the intersection of Evangelista and Estrella streets.

Authorities conducted a so called "hydrotesting," wherein the petroleum content of every tank in the station is siphoned out and replaced with water. The tanks are then weighed and after several hours, will be measured again to find out if its weight got reduced, thus it can be confirmed that the leak came from the tanks.

On Thursday, firefighters were put on standby at Phoenix's Bangkal gas station for any eventuality because of the gas leak.

In an earlier testing, the BFP found out that the gas fumes were from the gas station's immediate vicinity.

Phoenix earlier said that the leak incident is an isolated case and that the gas station voluntarily closed for the safety of the community.  — Ted Cordero/RSJ, GMA News
