Garbo: Duterte was fed with wrong, poisonous info

Former Philippine National Police (PNP) deputy director general Marcelo Garbo, Jr. on Wednesday said President Rodrigo Duterte "was fed with wrong and poisonous information" after he was tagged by the chief executive as a "protector of drug syndicates."

"I cannot blame the President for making such announcement. But I assure him and the Filipino people that he (Duterte) was fed with wrong and poisonous information," he said.

"It's a sad day for people who believe in good governance, righteousness and integrity," Garbo added.

The former PNP official said he is ready to talk to Duterte one-on-one "to clear the issue."

On Tuesday, Duterte named five police generals allegedly involved in illegal drugs, and ordered them relieved from their posts.

Aside from Garbo, also named were Vicente Loot, Bernardo Diaz, Edgardo Tinio, and Joel Pagdilao.

PNP Director General Ronald "Bato" dela Rosa on Tuesday said he will give the police generals named the chance to clear their names.

The National Police Commission held an en banc meeting on Wednesday to discuss the matter. —KG, GMA News
