DENIES HE EXECUTED AFFIDAVIT

Cabbie Tomas Bagcal says he brought Carl Angelo to police station alive

Taxi driver Tomas Bagcal on Sunday claimed that he brought his robber, 19-year-old Carl Angelo  Arnaiz, alive at a police station in Caloocan City on August 18.

In a press conference, Bagcal said that police's killing of Arnaiz was "scripted."

"Ang ano ko lang kasi nangyari sa pulis, iyong pagkapatay noong prinisent kong holdaper ay parang may stage play, parang scripted ang pagkapatay," he said.

Bagcal, who sought the protection of the group Rise Up for Life and for Rights, initially declined to confirm if the robber he brought to the police station was Arnaiz.

Later during the press conference, Bagcal finally said it was Arnaiz. He said the teenager was mauled by bystanders in Caloocan City after robbing him.

He said he was able to pacify the bystanders and decided to bring Arnaiz himself to the police station.

Affidavit

Bagcal also denied that he executed an affidavit on the robbery incident.

"May ano doon eh. Hindi iyong totoong statement iyon eh. Ang tinanong lang sa akin doon, birthday, pangalan saka edad at OR, CR ng sasakyan. Aside from doon, wala," Bagcal said in a press conference.

He also said policemen at the Police Community Precinct (PCP) 2 in Caloocan City had insisted that he implicate a 14-year-old in the robbery.

He did not say if the 14-year-old he was referring to was Reynaldo de Guzman, who was last seen alive with Arnaiz.

De Guzman had been found dead last week in Nueva Ecija with more than 30 stab wounds in the body.

Police earlier said that Bagcal executed two affidavits.

Caloocan City policemen -- Police Officers 1 Jeffrey Perez And Ricky Arquilita -- had claimed that they killed Arnaiz in a gunfight after robbing Bagcal, but the Public Attorney's Office said based on autopsy results that the teenager was handcuffed and possibly kneeling down when he was shot dead.

Witness to killing

Bagcal said during the press conference that he witnessed Arnaiz' killing.

He did not say if the policemen brought Arnaiz to the area where he was killed, but said that he was ordered by policemen to come with them.

"Pinasunod po ako," he said, but declined to provide additional details.

He kept on saying that he will reveal everything he knows "in a proper venue."

Members of Rise Up said during the briefing that Bagcal would be willing to appear in the Senate's probe on drug-related killings.

During the briefing, Bagcal made a promise to the family of Arnaiz that he will help them seek  justice for the teenager's death.  —Margaret Claire Layug/ALG, GMA News
