Calida questions Sereno's 'retrieved SALNs'

Solicitor General Jose Calida on Thursday said the Statements of Assets, Liabilities and Net Worth (SALN) supposedly retrieved recently by Chief Justice Maria Lourdes Sereno were the same documents his office had obtained and submitted to the Supreme Court.

It was earlier reported that Sereno's lawyer Jojo Lacanilao confirmed that the Chief Justice recently retrieved nine of her SALNs from the years 1985, 1989, 1990, 1991, 1993, 1994, 1995, 1996 and 1997 from the University of the Philippines Law Center.

Lacanilao added that there are now 14 SALNs in Sereno's possession.

On Twitter, the Solicitor General called the chief magistrate a liar and accused her of "misleading" the Filipino people.

"Sereno claims to have recovered 8 of her SALNs," Calida wrote on Thursday evening.

"Except for her 1989 SALN, assuming it is not a fabrication, those Sereno supposedly 'recovered' were the same ones submitted by the OSG to the Supreme Court," he added.

In his quo warranto petition that challenged the validity of Sereno's appointment as Chief Justice, the OSG said she failed to comply with the requirements set forth by the Judicial and Bar Council (JBC) when she applied for the post in 2012.

Maintaining she had consistently filed her SALNs, Sereno had said she was locating the "missing" documents.

Sereno said she would present them to the Senate should it convene as an impeachment court. — BAP, GMA News
