Duterte to attend opening of federalism information drive — Con-com

President Rodrigo Duterte will personally attend the opening of the information campaign on federalism, the Consultative Committee to Review the 1987 Constitution (Con-com) said on Sunday.

In an emailed statement, the Con-com said Duterte expressed his intent to join the information drive on federalism, which his administration seeks to adopt as a form of government in the country.

"The President has expressed himself that he will be personally present at the opening salvo of the information drive," Executive Secretary Salvador Medialdea was quoted as saying in the statement.

Medialdea is on top of the Con-com, which was tasked to create a draft federal Constitution. The draft's final official copy was released in July.

"We informed him about the information drive which we are going to do once our task here ends," said Medialdea.

Malacañang last month formed an inter-agency task force that would conduct a nationwide information dissemination campaign on the push for a federal form of government, with a budget of P90 million.

Finance Secretary Carlos Dominguez III earlier this month expressed apprehensions about the provisions in the draft federal constitution, saying it could lead to a "fiscal nightmare" if not sorted out properly. — Jon Viktor D. Cabuenas/BM, GMA News
