PNP to file charges vs. blogger Drew Olivar over bomb scare post

Philippine National Police chief Director General Oscar Albayalde on Monday said charges will be filed by the PNP against blogger Drew Olivar for his bomb scare post on social media.

In a press conference, Albayalde said Olivar will face charges of violation of Presidential Decree 1727 which declares as unlawful the malicious dissemination of false information or the willful making of any threat concerning bombs, explosives or any similar device or means of destruction, according to a report on Dobol B sa News TV by Benjie Liwanag.

Olivar, the co-host of Assistant Secretary Mocha Uson in a radio show, posted on social media about a supposed bombing  that will happen on September 21 on EDSA, on the 46th anniversary of Martial Law.

His controversial post read: “Ay nakakatakot naman magrally sa Edsa, kasi may kumakalat na baka maulit daw ‘yung pagbomba kagaya ng Plaza Miranda! Kung ako sa inyo hindi na ako pupunta!”

National Capital Region Police Office chief Director Guillermo Eleazar told GMA News Online on Friday that the NCRPO planned to question Olivar over this Facebook post.

Olivar apologized for his post and said he was only concerned about public safety.

If found guilty, Olivar may face jail time or pay a fine.

Eleazar said anyone with information about a bomb threat should inform the PNP and not post about it on social media. —KG, GMA News
