Gov't COVID-19 adviser Herbosa resigns as UP Executive Vice President

Government COVID-19 response adviser Dr. Teodoro J. Herbosa resigned as University of the Philippines System Executive Vice President, the university announced early Sunday morning.

Herbosa resigned for “personal reasons,” and UP President Danilo Concepcion accepted it, noting that Herbosa had served the University with great dedication since the start of Concepcion’s administration in 2017.

“In your service as Executive Vice President, you have shown how vital this position can be to the governance of the University,” President Concepcion had written in his letter accepting Herbosa’s resignation.

However, the UP President noted that there needed to be consistency and harmony among university administrators' relationships, as well as in their public pronouncements "given that we both represent the larger University community, its spirit, and its interests.”

Herbosa was heavily criticized for linking community pantries with the communist insurgency.

He subsequently apologized for his social media posts, calling them ill-judged, and went on leave to reflect on his "missteps." — DVM, GMA News
