Coca-Cola commits support to youth groups pushing for positive change through Coke Barkadahan Grant

Coca-Cola Foundation Philippines, Inc. opens opportunities for Filipino college students in Metro Manila to open happiness in their communities by empowering them to work together on projects for environmental stewardship, education, and active healthy living through the Coke Barkadahan Grant.

“With this program, we aim to harness the idealism and energy of the Filipino youth to make them active participants in nation-building,” shares Cecile Alcantara, President of Coca-Cola Philippines Foundation, Inc.

The Coke Barkadahan Grant is aligned with “Me, We, World,” the global sustainability framework of Coca-Cola, which focuses on improving personal well-being, building stronger communities, and protecting the environment.

Grant applications must be focused on any one of the three key areas that Coca-Cola is working on: environmental stewardship, particularly the protection and conservation of water resources, and community recycling; education, helping disadvantaged children and youth do better in school; and active healthy living, promoting regular physical activity.

“We are challenging the Filipino youth to send in their proposals for projects that are aligned with the sustainability efforts of Coca-Cola,” adds Alcantara.

Twenty school-recognized student organizations from on the CHED List of Higher Education Institutions in the National Capital Region will be selected to receive grants of up to P20,000.00 to kickstart their proposed projects.

Project proposals will be gauged on their alignment to the core programs of Coca-Cola Foundation Philippines, Inc., and their sustainability. Another key criterion is how the youth organization embodies the “Coke Barkada Spirit.”

“We are looking for the group volunteerism spirit that pushes the youth to work together for the good of their communities,” relates Atty. Adel Tamano, Vice President for Public Affairs and Communications of Coca-Cola Philippines. “We want them to live the value of positive action for positive change.”

The 2013 Coke Barkadahan Grant Program is exclusively open for interested youth organizations from Metro Manila colleges and universities until August 30, 2013.
