Myrtle Sarrosa invests in NFT video game: 'Yung parents ko naloloka sa akin'

From being a cosplayer, pro-gamer, and streamer, Myrtle Sarrosa takes her passion to the next level by investing in an upcoming NFT video game called MetaGods.

"Ito talaga yung gusto kong gawin. So, aside from streaming and being an ambassador, I also went into behind the scenes, being an investor," said Myrtle about her fascination with video games in a short chat with GMANetwork.com recently.

NFT or non-fungible token is a digital asset (image, video, GIFs, music, video games, and more) that has a unique identity and its ownership is verified through a blockchain--a secured system of recording information that is difficult or impossible to change, cheat, or hack.

These NFTs or digital assets can be bought by using cryptocurrency.

According to the actress-pro-gamer, her newest investment is actually a piece of nagging advice from her parents, which is to buy land. However, as a true-blue gamer, she opted to invest in a digital land found in the play-to-earn game MetaGods.

"Kahit yung parents ko naloloka sa akin," related Myrtle, who is now dubbed as the Queen of NFT.

She went on to say that she used the money that she earned from her tapings in her last projects to buy the digital land.

"Like, yung mga kinita ko sa taping from last year, imbes na...

How will Myrtle get returns from this investment?

She explained, "Ang mangyayari is yung binili kong lupa is nandoon sa isang dungeon sa game. Di ba, sa Ragnarok, may mga dungeon? Sa dungeon na 'yon, may mga boss. So, kung may players na pumatay sa boss na 'yon, kikita sila sa mga drops--could be a weapon or a helmet.

"Kaya ako pumasok ako to invest into this game kasi naniniwala ako na kapag marami nang naglalaro sa game, kikita sila. Pero 'yung mga tao na tulad kong nag-invest into the game, kikita rin kasi part-owner kami sa game. 'Tapos kung anuman ang kitain nila, a small percentage of what they earn we'll also earn."

GMANetwork.com then asked how her parents reacted when she acquired the digital land. She answered, "Well, 'yung parents ko kasi they will start na very [skeptic] like any other parents na, 'Ano ba 'yang ginagawa mo? Games 'tapos ano.' Kasi, they're the type of persons na very traditional yung paniniwala nila.

Nasa-shock sila, pero noong in-explain ko sa kanila, like for example, noong very successful yung pangyayari sa Axie [Infinity, a popular play-to-earn game during the pandemic], they understand talaga and they saw the success na nakuha ko from this type of gaming.

They also saw how I invested into different cryptocurrencies and they were quite supportive naman sa pinaggagagawa ko."

Myrtle admitted that like her parents, she was also initially skeptical about the idea of buying digital assets in a video game. However, she, later on, thought that many assets would be digital sooner or later.

She said, "Sabihin na natin na 'yung ibang artista mahilig sa mga Louis Vuitton bags, Gucci bags. I super admire them for buying branded assets.

Aside from Myrtle, other celebrities such as Heart Evangelista, Kris Lawrence, and Manny Pacquiao have released their NFTs.

On the other hand, Pia Wurtzbach and Catriona Gray were among the iconic beauty queens featured on Miss Universe's first beauty pageant NFTs.
