By Michelle Caligan

SHINee surprised Shawols all over the world with the release of their latest Japanese single "SUPERSTAR" on various streaming platforms on Monday, May 24.

The song is the lead track of their upcoming Japanese album with the same title, which will drop on July 28.

In an article by Japanese entertainment news site Modelpress, the three-minute track is described as “a minimal and addictive cheering song” with lyrics that “contain messages of encouragement from SHINee like 'It's up to you to change everything,' 'Let's pursue our own happiness,' and 'Let's live a life of believing in ourselves rather than a life of comparisons.'”

SHINee first performed "SUPERSTAR" during their “Bistro de SHINee” special broadcast in celebration of their 10th debut anniversary in Japan on Sunday, May 23. The Beyond Live fan event had the boys go through different restaurant-themed missions, from sweeping the floor blindfolded to passing ingredients using a spoon, a teaspoon, and a knife.

The members ended the event with a performance of their recent hits “Don't Call Me” and “Atlantis,” as well as their Japanese song “Diamond Sky” and another new track “SEASONS.”

"SUPERSTAR" marks SHINee's first Japanese comeback since “Sunny Side” in 2018. They debuted in Korea on May 25, 2008, and in Japan on June 22, 2011.

Speaking of debut, SHINee will be having another online fan event titled “SHINee Day” on Tuesday, May 25, to celebrate their 13th anniversary.

They will also be one of the performers in the 3rd Shiny Arts Festival of fellow member Jonghyun's Shiny Foundation on May 30, 5:00 pm (Philippine Time). You can catch the show on Shiny Foundation's YouTube channel.

As for their individual activities, Taemin just released his third mini album Advice, Onew is currently part of the musical Midnight Sun, Key is preparing for his solo comeback in July, and Minho is shooting for the drama Yumi's Cells.

Leader Onew also recorded two songs for “Midnight Sun,” and both were released on May 24 as well.
