As part of its support to the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology to improve management of TB control in jails, the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) donated a mobile digital X-ray machine to be stationed at the Quezon City Jail.  In the handover ceremony held yesterday, 10 September 2014, BJMP officer-in-charge Jail Chief Supt. Diony Mamaril received from the ICRC, through health coordinator Beatriz Karottki, the mobile X-ray unit which will be used for rapid screening of TB among inmates and personnel of BJMP in Metro Manila.

QCJ is one of two pilot sites where the ICRC has been working to improve management of TB control. Apart from being a pilot site for TB program implementation, QCJ was also chosen as pilot site for the Health Information Management System to improve entry medical screening, recording and reporting of jail health activities.

In July 2014, the ICRC conducted a TB mass screening as part of intensified efforts to detect and manage TB cases, thereby preventing its transmission. A total of 2,853 inmates and 102 jail staff in QCJ benefited from the screening, where 153 TB cases to-date have been identified and currently put on treatment.
