WordPress plugin brings Twitter features to pages
WordPress users can now integrate Twitter features into their sites, after the micro-blogging site rolled out an official WordPress plug-in.
Twitter developer advocate Niall Kennedy said this will embed Twitter content and "bundle" features and functionality into WordPress-powered sites.
"Our plugin automatically generates Twitter Cards for your webpages to highlight your content shared on Twitter," Kennedy said.
Other tools include:
- Twitter Analytics: lets a site owner associate his or her site and author Twitter accounts to track content popularity on Twitter and grow his or her audience.
- Embedded Tweets and video: also allows a user to customize embedded tweet colors from the WordPress admin interface.
Buttons
A Tweet button is added to posts from the WordPress administrative interface. This makes it easier for Twitter users to share content with their followers.
"Our plugin automatically configures your Tweet button to include the URL of the post, site and author Twitter accounts, custom share text and hashtags specific to each post," Kennedy said.
Meanwhile, a Follow button makes it easier to convert visitors into followers.
For advertisers
Twitter advertisers can focus on campaigns and conversions without worrying about markup and browser optimizations, Kennedy said.
He said they can measure return on investment by tracking actions Twitter users take after viewing or engaging with their ads.
Flexibility
Kennedy said the plugin allows for extensibility and WordPress API integrations by other WordPress plugins or site-specific customizations.
He added the plugin is globally available in 28 languages. — Joel Locsin/TJD, GMA News
