Police trainee in Cam Sur buys face mask for civilian so he can enter pawnshop

A police trainee in Sipocot, Camarines Sur was spotted buying a face mask for a civilian amid the enhanced community quarantine.

According to Cedric Castillo's report for "24 Oras," the civilian was lining up to enter a money remittance center when police trainee Rodel Nuyles saw him.

"Pinagsabihan ko po siya at noong tinanong ko siya bakit wala siyang mask, bale sabi niya wala siyang pambili ng mask," he said.

Because he felt bad for the man, Nuyles decided to buy him a face mask from a nearby store.

Nuyles' kind action was caught on CCTV which has since been a viral post on social media.

The police trainee said, "Sa lahat ng naka-appreciate sa ginawa ko sana ma-inspire po kayo at salamat sa inyong lahat."

According to the uploader of the footage, he wishes that everyone would be just like the police trainee who showed compassion for people in need.

In Mandaluyong City, an army reservist also gave a free mask to a resident after scolding him for not wearing one.

Others, however, were not as understanding.

Last week, Winston Ragos, a retired military personnel who had mental health issues, was shot dead by police manning a checkpoint in Quezon City.

This week, lockdown enforcers in Quezon City were caught on camera flogging an allegedly mentally challenged man with a rattan stick and dragging him to the ground. —Kaela Malig/MGP, GMA News
