A peacock was seen lounging on top of a gate inside a subdivision in Muntinlupa

After news of ostriches, a pig, and a cow running free on Philippine streets, a peacock was seen lounging on top of a gate inside a subdivision in Muntinlupa City.

According to Nelson Canlas' report on 24 Oras, a netizen uploaded a photo that showed a beautiful peacock sitting on a gate, looking as though it was guarding the house.

It is unclear who owns the peacock or why it was seen there, but Chico Cabalatungan, who shared the photo on Facebook, said it is well-taken care of.

Wildlife running free seems to be last week's theme, with a pair of ostriches running loose in a subdivision in Quezon City. It was quickly followed by a sighting of a pig running on a Cebu highway, and finally, a cow in Iloilo.

In case you were wondering, keeping wildlife in subdivisions is legal as long as it is compliant to Republic Act No. 9147and supported by necessary documents, the Department of Environment and Natural Resources has clarified.

It added that keepers of wildlife should have financial and technical capability, as well as facilities to maintain them.

But perhaps urbanites interested in such a hobby might want to rethink that. On Saturday, DENR Spokesperson Undersecretary Benny Antiporda reported that one of the two ostriches that went viral has died due to stress. — Jannielyn Ann Bigtas/LA, GMA News
