Free admission: These museums will waive their entrance fees for International Museum Day 2019


International Museum Day happens on May 18, and to celebrate a number of museums around Metro Manila will be waiving their admissions fee.

And just a friendly reminder: The National Museum of Fine Arts, the National Museum of Natural History, and De La Salle Benilde's Museum of Contemporary Art and Design have long accommodated guests and visitors, free of door charge.

Yuchengco Museum. At the corner of Ayala Avenue and Gil Puyat Avenue stands this museum, where the huge art collection of Ambassador Alfonso T. Yuchengco is on display, including a number of masterpieces by Juan Luna, Fernando Amorsolo, and Carlos "Botong" Francisco and on the fourth floor, select memorabilia from the Yuchengco family’s Chinese heritage. Museo de Intramuros. At the old site of the San Ignacio Church and Mission House, the newly opened Museo de Intramuros has a lot of religious images of the Intramuros Administration on display. Arzobispo Street cor. Anda Street, Intramuros. Tuesday-Sunday, 9am-5pm

 

 

Casa Manila Museum. This museum, also in Intramuros, is popular for its beautiful showcase of Philippine domestic life of upper class families back in the 19th century. It will waive its P75-door charge (P50 for students) on Saturday and Sunday (May 18 & 19). Plaza Luis Complex, General Luna Street, Intramuros. Tuesday-Sunday 9am-6pm. +632 5274084

Destileria Limtuaco Museum. Here is a museum about our drinking history; Destileria Limtuaco after all is the oldest distillery in the country. On display at the second floor are personal belongings on the man who built the distillery, while on the first floor, guests are walked through the different processes of making alcohol. Entrance is free on International Museum Day, but if you want to sample their drinks, you’ll need to cough out P100. 482 San Juan de Letran St., Intramuros, Manila. Open Tuesdays - Sundays, 9am-6pm.

Ayala Museum. The museum right in the commercial center of Makati is celebrating International Msueum Day on Sunday, May 19, and apart from waiving fees to all its galleries, it has interesting offerings, like Story Telling for Kids (3-5pm) and an Art Buffet (1-7pm), and of course, food and drinks. Bahay Tsinoy. Life-like dioramas, ancient Chinese maps,trade wares, rare coins, and more, Bahay Tsinoy is all about showcasing the Chinese influence in the Philippines. Kaisa Heritage Center, Anda Street  cor. Cabido Streets, Intramuros, Manila. 1pm-5pm. +632 5276083

Bagumbayan Light & Sounds Museum. At the former site of the convent of nuns of the Beatero de la Compania de Nesus, the Bagumbayan Light and Sounds Museums focuses on Rizal’s heroism and martyrdom. It will be free admissions on Saturday and Sunday (May 18 & 19). Victoria Street cor. Sta. Lucia Street, Intramuros, Manila. 9am-6pm. +632 5242827
