With the recent surprise release of Taylor Swift’s folklore, we bet your Swiftie girlfriend has streamed the record non-stop, probably bought CDs and merchandise, flooded social media with her fangirling, and told you about the way she cried to her newest album.

As a clueless boyfriend, you may be wondering what she is going crazy about. Well, wonder no more, because you’re on the right page. Here’s why your girl is so obsessed with TayTay:

1. She is much more than her mega hits.

You probably know Taylor from her famous pop anthems such as Shake It Off and Look What You Made Me Do, but she is so much more than her official singles. If you dive deeper into her album tracks, there are lots of gems just waiting to be discovered; gems that make her fans – including your girl – adore the singer. More on that later, but you surely wouldn’t want to miss her god-tier songs such as, but not limited to, All Too Well, Getaway Car, and exile.

2. She has jumped across multiple genres, and reigned in all of them.

The singer-songwriter started her career in the country scene, spawning old but gold hits like Teardrops On My Guitar and Love Story. Her first four albums – Taylor Swift, Fearless, Speak Now, and RED – were all country, with some pop and rock influenced music.

In 2014, she shocked her fans with the announcement that her 5th album 1989 will be entirely pop, and this earned her even more mainstream success that remained stable through her succeeding pop albums, reputation and Lover. She holds the record for both the most awarded country album and pop album in history with Fearless and 1989 respectively.

Recently, Taylegend conquered yet another genre with the record-breaking achievements of folklore, her first alternative album. With this, she once again proved her haters wrong, who claimed that she was “over” and that her music “all sound the same.” Your girlfriend loves a versatile queen!

3. Her songwriting is a masterpiece.

This is most likely the biggest reason why your girl stans Ms. Swift – this woman is a lyrical genius. She has written each one of her songs, most notably her 3rd album Speak Now which did not have any co-writers. She is dubbed by critics as one of the best songwriters of her generation for a reason. Swifties also jokingly claim that Taylor *invented* bridges because of how good they are. (See: Dress, illicit affairs, and Dear John)

One may argue that her hits like ME! or We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together have simple and repetitive lyrics, but come on, these singles are supposed to be fun and catchy! If you’re looking for the best of her songwriting, the rest of her discography can speak for itself. Her storytelling, metaphors, wordplay and style will surely astonish you. Her songs Clean, State of Grace, Enchanted, and my tears ricochet are just some of her many beautifully-written tracks that will not fail to showcase her depth.

4. She has a song for every hugot *feels*

Tired of toxic behavior? Swift has You’re Not Sorry. Have been left behind? All You Had To Do Was Stay will give you a tight embrace. Thinking about your TOTGA? the 1 should be your go-to song. Been cheated on? Should’ve Said No understands you. Want to save an on-the-rocks relationship? Listen to Afterglow. Still not over your ex? Try not to cry with Last Kiss. Anxious about a new romance? Delicate will serve you well. Giving love another chance? Begin Again is the perfect choice.

I can go on forever, but the point is, one’s heart can never go wrong with a dose of TS. It’s almost as if she understands our feelings very well. Just a tip: take cues on what your girl has been listening to on repeat lately. It *may* say a lot about what she feels at the moment.

5. Or for when you just want to have fun

As much as Taylor’s songs can be the one your girl leans on when her heart feels a lot, the songstress’ music can also be the one she would want to dance to all day.

Many of her pop tunes such as Cruel Summer, King of My Heart, and Style can do the trick, but her other albums also have bops like mirrorball, Holy Ground, Sparks Fly, Jump Then Fall, and Our Song.

6. As well as songs that send a positive message

The global superstar also doesn’t fail in sending important messages through her music. Tied Together With A Smile spoke of physical insecurities, Change was about winning in life despite any hurdles, Mean addressed bullying, Blank Space was a feminist satire on media’s portrayal of her, The Man took a jab at sexism, Miss Americana & The Heartbreak Prince was a metaphorical depiction of United States’ politics, You Need To Calm Down screamed LGBT rights, and Only The Young tackled the significance of the youth’s political involvement.

7. Your girlfriend is in it for some brain exercises.

If you have ever seen your girl so seriously focused on watching T-Swizzle’s music videos, or reading her lyrics, chances are, she’s busy looking for easter eggs, references, and clues.

Her first five albums included secret messages on the physical booklet, in the form of capitalized letters throughout each track’s lyrics. These secret messages gave her fans a hint on who or what the song is about; in the case of 1989, what the whole album’s story is.

Folklore was especially brilliant in terms of brain exercises as it appears to have a plot. According to Taylor, she “created character arcs and recurring themes that map out who is singing about who.” These left the fandom analyzing each track, guessing whose perspective a song is, and outlining the fictional tale of Betty, James, and the other woman. Taylor also said that “there’s a collection of 3 songs I refer to as The Teenage Love Triangle,” which fans collectively agreed to be cardigan, betty, and august.

8. How Taylor connects with her fans

Along with all the things related to her music, your girl and the rest of the Swifties are attached to Taylor for this important reason: her relationship with her fans. Despite her worldwide commercial success and critical acclaim, she has remained down to earth and continued to treat her fans like family –  dedicating Long Live for them, inviting them to their homes for exclusive album listening sessions, meeting them for free before and after her concerts, interacting with them on social media, inspiring them through her empowering words, and even sending them gifts.

It’s undeniable that there’s a special connection between Taylor and her fans. It’s not surprising though. We basically grew up with her. We sobbed when Abigail gave up everything she had in Fifteen, and waited eagerly for our 22nd birthday so we can play 22 all day. We added her music to every playlist, used her lyrics as Instagram captions, and set Cornelia Street as location to our Twitter profile. We witnessed her fall in love and be heartbroken. We saw her rise above every controversy that threatened her career. We wept tears of joy when we heard Call It What You Want, and realized she's finally happy.
